Tawang is both historically and naturally endowed. It is located at a distance of 183 Kms from Bomdila and is situated at an altitude of 3500 metres above sea level. The natural beauty and solitude of Gudpi and Chong-Chugmi ranges, Tawang chu River and Tawang valley are very mesmerizing.Tawang is famous for being the home to the second largest Buddhist monastery in the world (after Lhasa in Tibet). It is a truly amazing structure more like a medieval city – with its surrounding fortified wall and narrow alleyways weaving through white washed brick homes. It is a holy place for the Tibetans, being the birth place of one Dalai Lama. There are also beautiful natural Lakes in Tawang like the Sangster which is known for its scenic surroundings as well as rare avi-fauna like snow pigeon and musk deer and thePTso Lake for its picturesque landscape.
